I don’t know if it’s an illusion this time, but I think RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS is slightly better than RF85mm F1.2 L USM, in terms of sharpness, so I can boldly say that RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS, with full aperture and even the entire aperture range is the sharpest lens I have ever seen.

In the last test, we confirmed that the RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS has an extremely sharp performance. After seeing the sharp focus as sharp as the blade, we looked out of focus. How smooth is smooth defocus? Is it really creamy?

In order to give you a more intuitive view of the effect changes, I made the test results into a motion picture. However, there must be a loss of picture quality in GIF, so we can refer to it for reference. The next test content is the real picture quality performance part. The special effect of smooth defocusing is achieved by Canon implanting two DS coatings inside the lens. The transition effect is really smooth and the background outline is softer.

What’s interesting about DS coating is that it has a smooth transition effect not only on the background, but also on the foreground.

The foreground vegetation also has a soft and virtual effect when photographed with full open aperture of fhand 1.2.

Even if it is our daily shoot of flowers, when the aperture is fully open, the virtual effect is really very soft and beautiful.

Use fstick 1.2 aperture to take some landscapes or still life close-ups, which is not what most photographers would do. But because our thinking is limited to “small aperture shooting scenery”, we get fewer and fewer surprises in our photography.

And what I want to say is that even if I don’t have a model to shoot, I can only take a walk around the park to see what plants are worth photographing. I will really be overjoyed to use the illusion of ultra-shallow depth of field brought about by fstick 1.2. It is undeniable that the real use of RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS is, of course, portrait shooting. Otherwise, how else can it be called the King of Mirror?

RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS is obviously aimed at photographers who have very high requirements for out-of-focus softening. With the new canon self-developed DS coating, coupled with the extreme aperture property of the lens itself, especially in the colorful lighting environment at night, you will take unprecedented portrait photos.

The above photos are shot with the maximum aperture of RF85mm F1.2. I mainly shoot from the point of view of the bust and full-body portraits of the model, and choose the common commercial square as the background to show you the strength of the F1.2 L USM DS in the actual shooting. I didn’t use any supplementary lights or equipment for this shooting, only ambient light. It was cloudy on the day of shooting, and most likely we could only rely on outdoor street lamps and indoor paving lights. Because of the large aperture of FRB 1.2, the ISO, screen can be more pure without much improvement on the safety shutter.

The feeling is really subtle. Different from the previous virtual effect, the brand-new feeling of air cutting, the character’s main body seems to be in harmony with the background, which is really fascinating. The whole body virtual effect of fhand 1.2 is excellent. The closer the distance is, the more obvious the dispersion of the point light source is, and it is the best when it reaches the nearest 0.85 m focus distance. I think only RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS can match this effect-it’s really the king in the mirror.

When the RF85mm F1.2 L USM was launched, Canon announced the RF85mm F1.2 L USM DS version at the same time. This is the first dual version of the RF card lens. Because of the particularity of DS coating, it seems to be more suitable for 85mm focus rather than 50mm focus. The visual range of the 85mm lens narrows the background, which makes it easier for the point light source to become virtual.
