I used to call myself “wooden ear”. The requirement for sound quality is not high, and the headphones that come with my mobile phone can meet my needs. However, with the change of identity from student to social person, long commuting time and noisy subway environment make noise reduction a rigid demand. Sony WF-1000XM3 ‘s strongest rival at that time was Apple’s AirPods, but the latter did not support noise reduction, so many users turned to Sony. The WF-1000XM3 is not very small in terms of charging box or headphones, but given the support for noise reduction, I have no choice but to forgive it. Next, I will take an inventory of the “joys and sorrows” I have encountered in the process of using WF-1000XM3.
The charging box is slightly larger and easy to scratch
Sony WF-1000XM3 ‘s charging box uses a skin-friendly design, which is comfortable to the touch and not easy to stain fingerprints. But this material is really a little fragile, a few days after streaking, there are a lot of scratches, and finally had no choice but to buy a silicone protective case. The size of the charging box is a little larger, and if your pocket is not “wide” enough, it may sneak away.
But there are big benefits. 1000XM3’s charging box can provide an extra 18 hours of battery life for headphones, and you don’t even have to bring a charger for short trips. And it uses the Type-C interface, for Android phone users, the universal charger is more convenient. The headset adopts a magnetic design, which makes it easy to put in and take out. I want to like it here.
The stability needs to be improved and continues to live by upgrading
At the beginning of the release, Sony said the machine uses a new HD noise reduction processor QN1e, binaural design, which can further improve stability. That’s true, but every time you put your headphones on, you can hear two out-of-sync “boot, Bluetooth connected”. In terms of stability, there is no problem most of the time, but there is an occasional disconnection in one ear.
The solution is also very simple, that is, leave it alone and the link should be restored soon. In terms of user experience, since I am a iPhone user, the first pairing is a waste of effort, but fortunately, after the pairing is successful, the subsequent automatic connection is still very convenient. Sony WF-1000XM3 has two modes. I have always used it in the “connectivity first” mode, and it has good stability. But there are occasional interruptions to the music. Miraculously, whenever there is a big problem, the phone will show that there is a “software update” available, and after updating the headphones, it will be resurrected with blood.
The sound quality is excellent, but the noise reduction needs to be improved
When it comes to sound quality, I mentioned earlier that I was a “wooden ear”, but WF-1000XM3 made me make a difference in my judgment. Sony official said, “built-in 6mm driver unit, headphones show rich details, clear and transparent, wide frequency range of good sound quality.” The DSEE HX Digital Sound Enhancement engine compensates for the loss of high-frequency signals and digital audio compression, resulting in high-quality sound effects close to Hi-Res. This is a very metaphysical part. I can only say that you need to experience it for yourself. I personally think it is enough.
In terms of noise reduction, to be honest, it is not as good as Bose’s QC30. Especially in the subway, can obviously feel that there is noise leakage, noise reduction effect is slightly inferior. But it should be noted that the 1000XM3 is a true wireless design, and it is good to be able to achieve such a noise reduction effect. Daily commuting is enough, and it is obviously no better than headwear and collar style on airplanes and subways. If you need more noise reduction than portability, then turning left into Sony’s own WH series is more suitable for you.
Excellent travel is essential for continued voyage
As mentioned earlier, the WF-1000XM3 ‘s charging box is slightly larger, but it brings longer battery life. I think everyone can do this kind of arithmetic. I am currently using a four-hour one-way plane, full noise reduction mode + music + movies, fully able to Hold. But for longer international flights, you may need to go back to the charging box to “refuel”.
If you want to give WF-1000XM3 a score, I think you can give it to around 85. Excellent and exquisite appearance design, good sense of wearing experience, as well as excellent sound quality and noise reduction in similar products, this 1699 yuan is worth it. But after the launch of Apple’s AirPods Pro, I believe Sony is also under a lot of pressure. To be sure, Sony is slightly inferior in terms of connectivity experience, stability, and so on. But if you want me to score comprehensively, I will still choose Sony. On the whole, the small “Bug” is harmless, and it is also an excellent real wireless headset.
